About 1000 babies are born in the hospital each year. However, there were no proper modern Neonatal units in this historical hospital till 2010. The present modern Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was established in 2010. Since then,it has been caring for extremely sick newborns, not only for inborn deliveries but also for referral cases from all over North East, India. TheICU is treating babies as tiny as 600 gms birth weight, babies as immature as from 26 weeks of gestation and critical cases. Our success rate is as gooda sany best NICUs in India. We are providing these services at a nominal cost, more than fifty percent less than other similar units of Guwahati. All people who need neonatal care, but can’t afford come to us for dedicated services. Dedicated nursing services with dexterity and passionate emotional support to the parents are our specialty. We added one Human Milk Bank to it in the year 2018, the first in North East India. We have a good infection control policy and written policy and protocols for all neonatal problems and procedures. Practicing loving-kindness and equanimity, having a deep belief in other, developing trusting-caring relationships and creating a healing environment is our strengths. We believe in transparency and involve parents from day one in the routine care of their newborn. We counsel parents regularly in the morning and evening and there is no restrictions on their entry into our unit at any time of the day. Our mortality rate is less than one percent. We also have a regular follow-up developmental clinic. We are doing regular ROP clinic and surgery whenever it is needed.
